Game 10

June 20, 2007

On Monday night the Beez played against the Raiders. The first inning was off to a shaky start with the Raiders scoring 6 and the Beez 0. We managed to pull it together though, ending halfway through the sixth inning. Final score 25-14. Matt from Wednesday night’s Magic Men played with us again. And Big 6 with his one big calf did some stellar hobbling to first. Although it didn’t rain during the games it did rain that morning, classifying it as a rainy Monday!!

Super-Fans of the night included Sarah, Kristy, Jaeda and of course myself.

Rainy Mondays: 4
Non-Rainy Mondays: 3
Games Rained Out: 1

Komen Brainerd Lakes

June 17, 2007

So this weekend my blog reader Kristen talked me into running the Susan G. Komen 5K race on July 7th in Brainerd. This should be interesting. My training regimen is going to consist of not running for the next 3 weeks. Unorthodox? Yes. But I’m pretty sure if I run once I’ll be a-ok, as opposed to running multiple times and having my body feel rickety for the next 3 weeks.

If you want to run too, visit www.komenbrainerdlakes.org. If you want to sponsor me, go to my personal page (don’t feel obligated or anything, I just like putting links in my post).

Me, Paris & Nicole… BFF?

June 15, 2007

So last night I had the strangest dream yet again. In my dream I was hanging out with Paris and Nicole. I’m not sure what they saw in me, seeing I’m not rich and don’t do drugs. Nicole was shocked that I didn’t take oxycodone for recreation (apparently that’s not considered a drug in the Hollywood partying circuit of my dreams). The dream took on a very strange dynamic. First of all, I don’t particularly like either of them in real life, and my feelings were no different in my dreams. I was trying to fit in, it felt very similar to junior high school, but at the same time I had ulterior motives. I was trying to gather information. Dirt if you will. I wasn’t quite sure what specific information I was looking for, or how I was going to use it to my advantage. All I knew was that I had to pretend to be “cool” so they’d like me. I didn’t want to blow my cover and fail my quest of… well, whatever my quest was, I didn’t want to fail.

Then we were in my car (probably because I’m the best driver out of the three of us, or because they were drunk or high on something, this actually wasn’t considered during my dream, we were just all of a sudden in my car, you know how dreams are…). I was getting mad because there was this little information center thing in my car and it kept displaying the wrong time. I blamed it on being in a different state. You see, I hadn’t ever driven my car out of state before, so it’s only logical that the clock wasn’t working because of that very reason. I was also getting frustrated because I hadn’t yet discovered the unknown information I was so longing to discover.

Then we were walking through a garage. It was the typical garage that belongs to the type people that fill their garage with useless inexpensive crap and leave their vehicles parked in the driveway. We were all looking for something amidst the tall piles of boxes of crap. Well, they were looking for something (drugs probably) and I was pretending to look with them, while still being frustrated that I hadn’t found what I was looking for. Then I hit the gold mine!! As skinny as Nicole was, she had the biggest cankles I had ever seen!! Huge and ripply, and as big as my thigh. I wasn’t excited that she had fat ankles, per say… I was excited because it pointed to a bigger problem. Just as clubbed fingers are associated with cystic fibrosis or congenital heart disease, cankles were associated with a medical condition too. Too bad I had no idea what the medical condition was. However, I felt confident that if I took this information back to my superior, they would have someone else figure it out. But then I started to feel bad. I had actually gotten to like Nicole through the course of my dream. Or at least, I didn’t hate her. I felt kind of bad calling these cankles out. I thought maybe if I waited long enough, someone else would point out her cankles and I wouldn’t have to. Fortunately I didn’t have to make the decision because I woke up shortly after my discovery.

Nelly “No Band-Aid” Furtado

June 14, 2007

820Kristen and I had a fun time at the Nelly Furtado concert last night at the Xcel Energy Center. It was a packed half house show. Surprisingly there weren’t a bunch of younger kids running around like at the Christina and Britney concerts. Probably because she isn’t all wrapped up in media hub-bub. This is probably the first concert I’ve been to where I’ve liked the artist purely because of the music and not because of the star factor that they have.

The show opened with Saukrates. He was a hip-hop/rap/pop kind of singer. He had the moves and his songs were good, although I found the lyrics a bit cheesy at times. I gained all respect for him when he picked up an electric violin and starting playing “Kashmir” by Led Zeppelin. Although it was more of a Puff Daddy “Come With Me” jazzed up version. It rocked.

Next up was Kenna. I was actually out of the arena on a mission to find earplugs when he first came on. From outside I thought it was your typical alternative/punk/rock type band of white guys. Not cookie cutter or anything though. In fact, I found the music really unique and refreshing. Kristen made a comparison to the Voilent Femmes, or something she would have listened to in junior high. They did kind of have a retro sound. Oh, but apparently it’s not a band, it’s just Kenna. Oh, and Kenna is a black guy (totally unexpected, I’m not being facetious). His new CD is coming out in July, and I might have to snag me a copy.

Upon further investigation, I discovered he had a CD back in 2003. Also, according to his myspace page, his “journey to the forefront” is featured in a new book by Malcolm Gladwell called Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, who also wrote a national bestseller called The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference which I am currently reading. I might just have to check out Blink. Anyway, I digress.

Nelly Furtado, a.k.a. Nelly “No Band-Aid”, as not to confuse the C in cklahr.com, put on a great show. She played a good mix of new and old songs, as well as a cover of Gnarles Barkley’s “Crazy.” During the song “Forca” she came out wearing a Minnesota Wild jersey that was presented to her before the show, complete with FURTADO 07 on the back. The song was about fútbol so it was quite fitting (in a competitive sport way, I’m aware that the Wild play hockey). Very un-diva like for her to do.

Saukrates joined Nelly on stage to pick up on Timbaland’s vocals in “Promiscuous Girl” and “Give it to Me.” He also did some background vocals and dabbled a bit behind the percussions. Quite the multi-faceted character if you ask me. And not bad to look at either. I think I prefer Saukrates to Timbaland. Nothing against Timbaland, he’s very talented, but it’s not as if he’s entertaining to watch or anything. During one of Nelly’s costume changes, Saukrates and the backup vocalist sang “Sexy Back” which was really neat. I was rather bumbed that she didn’t sing “…On the Radio” because it’s my favorite song of hers. She played other songs from her first album that didn’t get radio time, so quite frankly I was baffled.

It was Kristen’s first concert that included backup dancers, so it was quite a treat for her. And almost as entertaining as the show was watching some of the guys in the audience dancing. I tell you, there sure is a lot of talent here in the Twin Cities!!
