HR Monitor

April 19, 2007

Uuuuggghh. Lifetime was a drag this morning. I was so tired when the alarm went off. When I got there I was just dragging ass too. I tried closing my eyes while on the arc machine. I thought if I could trick my brain into thinking I was sleeping that it would get easier. It helped for a little while. I popped my left eye open every now and then to make sure I was still on track. Usually I aim to get my heart rate at 155-165, but this morning I struggled to get to 150. I noticed that on Mondays it seems relatively easy, I have to make a concious effort to stay out of the 170s. By Friday I’m busting my chops in the mid 140s.

I don’t know how HR Monitors work. I mean, I know that they measure your heart rate and use personal information you enter to make various calculations. What I don’t understand is how it comes up with my target zone in the first few minutes of my work out, and it’s always seems to confirm the way my body is feeling. For instance today while I just about dying with a HR of 151, I looked down at my monitor and it was telling me to take it down a notch. How does it know? It can’t be a subconsious thing, because I usually don’t even see my target range until I’m all done and look at my stats. It must be magic or psychic or telepathic or something. That’s the only logical explaination.

MySpace

April 18, 2007

I had to set up a stupid MySpace account because some of my friends have blogs I want to read. Stupid MySpace. The worst part is that there was already a jillapalooza. I did a search for “jillapalooza” on google, and it appears there are a couple people using that for different things. Copycats. Too bad for them, this is the official jillapalooza. I had to go and use jillbuk. Don’t bother looking me up, you will only find a link back here, to the official jillapalooza website!!

Mornings at Lifetime

April 17, 2007

This is the second week in a row I’ve been going to the gym in the morning. I have to say that I’m shocked at how different the women who work out in the morning are from the women who work out at night. Morning women are so rude!! They seemed so friendly at first. Everyone talking to each other, telling one another what they did the night before and how their children are, etc. But no. These women are inconsiderate and rude.

When I go at night the women are so polite. If you find yourself in close proximity to someones locker, they’ll close the door a bit so you can walk by and move their things out of the way. Even if their things aren’t in the way. Everyone seems really respectful of everyone elses personal space.

Not the ladies in the morning. Take this morning for instance. A pretty typical morning. I return to my locker after working out. There are two people in the same aisle as I am, and they are taking up the entire bench!! These aren’t small benches either. They’ve got their gym bag on the bench, their water bottles, shower items, stack of towels, clothes laid out, workout clothes pile, shoes… literally taking up the whole bench. Actually, I only counted two people, but there was another bag. So either someone has two bags or people leave their things all over when they take their showers. And the floor too!! They have a floor pile scattered four lockers wide. Do you think anyone acknowledges that their crap is all over? No. There’s no “excuse me” or “let me get that out of your way, I seem to be taking up half this aisle with my completely useless and unnecessary belongings.”

And that leads me to another thing. Some of these bags are obnoxiously gigantic. I understand most people are going straight to work from the gym, but come on. The suitcase I used when I went to Aruba for 10 days was smaller than some of these peoples gym bags. What could they possibly need to bring with them? I could take everything I used through the course of an entire day and it wouldn’t fill up some of these bags. I could put myself in a one of them.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t have enormous bags, I’m just saying that they shouldn’t take up so much space. Maybe put some of their things in the bag, or put their shoes under the bench, or try using the locker. If the bag is too big for the locker, leave it under the bench while working out. Or, if they’re going to take up so much damn space, maybe clear me a little spot so I can set my iPod down while trying to open my locker.

Aaaahhhh. I feel better.

Happy Anniversary to Us!!

April 15, 2007

Today is Nick and my first anniversary!! It’s hard to believe a year has gone by already. It makes me sad in away, because we’re not going on a honeymoon tomorrow :(

Last night we celebrated at Murray’s in Mpls with the Silver Butter Knife Steak for Two. Mmmm… best steak ever. Also the best chocolate cake ever. I’m not a big chocolate cake fan, but I could eat their cake all day, every day.

Tonight we’re going to eat a piece from the top of our wedding cake that my mom was so gracious as to freeze, wrap up and store for the past year. Thanks Mom!! Hopefully it’s edible. It’s thawing right now, but the frosting flowers are still pretty tasty.
