30 Days of Thanks – Day #25

November 25, 2012

One of the things that’s come in handy throughout the past twelve years of my life is this step ladder.

My mom gave it to me when I first moved out. She said I would use it a lot. At the time I was kind of like… greeeeaaaat. Step ladder. Awesome. But as it turns out, I use this stupid thing all the damn time! As you can see, it’s well worn and covered in paint.

The cat is thankful for it too. Anytime I set it up, she’s instantly on the top step, rubbing her face and teeth on the metal.

I tried to capture it on video, but Boo wasn’t having it.

30 Days of Thanks – Day #24

November 24, 2012

I love Law & Order: SVU marathons. They are the best ever. And it’s not even that I watch them as much as they’re nice to have on in the background while I’m doing other stuff. Like computing.

When I’m computing I like to have background noise, but I want stuff that’s not distracting. SVU is never distracting. I can kind of half pay attention to it and it still makes sense. Also, the shows stand fairly independently from each other, so no matter what season is playing, I never get confused.

My favorite are the shows where Stabler and Benson work together. I don’t really like it when they’re not in the episode or aren’t working together. I think that’s why I completely lost interest in the last season. Oh well. That’s what the marathons are for!

30 Days of Thanks – Day #22

November 22, 2012

I’m thankful that I can celebrate the holidays with my family without a bunch of stupid drama. Some of the stories my friends tell are just ridiculous, and I’m glad I don’t have to deal with anything remotely similar.

Happy Thanksgiving!

30 Days of Thanks – Day #21

November 21, 2012

Sometimes I complain about my iPhone (more so recently because it’s acting like a stupid piece of crap). Let’s face it, iPhones are cool because they’re iPhones, but the list of their downfalls is pretty extensive. With that being said, I am still thankful for it! In fact, I’m thankful for all of my iDevices.

Let’s start with said iPhone. It makes me feel like I could RULE TEH WERLD! I use it for texts, email, Twitter, audio books, music, *deep breath* boarding passes, store reward cards, alarm clocks, buying tickets, buying from Amazon, stalking friends with Find My Friends, *deep breath* general internet surfing, podcasts, fiction, TV remote, shopping lists, photos, and calendars. Don’t forget Instagram! Sometimes I use it as an actual phone, but those occasions are few and far between.

I also have a 160GB iPod Classic. It’s awesome for the car or gym. I’ve had it for over a year now, and there’s still 102 GB free on it. I really only made it through M while loading music before I got impatient. I’m trying to rectify that before my next trip.

Last but definitely not least is my iPad. This is the most pointless device I own, but it’s so much fun to toy around with. Mostly I use it for watching shows on Netflix and playing games. Sometimes I write on it. (WriteRoom is an awesome app and worth whatever sum of money I ended up paying for it.) It works great in the kitchen for recipes as well because it doesn’t get in the way like a laptop does. I also read on it occasionally as it syncs up with my Kindle. I’m really looking forward to having it on the trip as well.

30 Days of Thanks – Day #20

November 20, 2012

Digital photography. Really, I could just stop there, but I’m not going to.

When I was a little kid, I remember being with my dad when he bought an Olympus camera for my mom. Birthday or Christmas or something, I don’t remember exactly. As it was a long time ago, I regret to say I don’t remember the exact model, but I do remember it had a little bubble shaped thing on the front that slid open, similar to the one pictured below.

My cameras growing up weren’t this snazzy. I had some sort of 35mm camera. For some reason I picture it being turquoise, which would make sense seeing it was the ’80s and all (that or someone else had a turquoise one and I was jealous). When that broke I used disposables, because they were all the rage.

And can I just say, what a pain in the ass! Film was a bitch. First of all you had no idea whether your photos turned out. And there were limits! At first I’d go all willy nilly snapping photos, but as the counter started getting higher and higher, panic would set in. I had to save them! There were still photos I wanted! Did I wind it already? Crap, was this a 12 or 24 roll? Can I squeeze in a couple extra at the end?

Once the film was done, you’d have to wait for them to be developed. There was nothing more disappointing than picking up the photos only to find out they all sucked.

The only time I actually enjoyed using film was in a high school photography class, where we got to use 35mm SLR cameras and develop our own photos.

I got my first digital camera in my early 20s. It was the awesomest thing ever at the time. It probably had 1 megapixel and a 64 MB memory card or something lame like that. Oh, and it was HUGE. It didn’t matter, though. I could take all the grainy pictures of Boo that I wanted!

Currently I own two Canons: a green PowerShot SD1200 and Rebel T2i. I love them both.

Boo now (click for awesome UHQ image)

Nothing beats digital photography. You get instant gratification. Electronic copies take up less space, are easily shareable, and can be backed up. Organization is a breeze. It costs the same amount whether you take 1 photo or 1,000.

Also, the more pictures you take of your kids today, the better you can embarrass them on first dates later.

**REVISED**

OMG! And lettuce not forget the cell phone camera. I think 90% of the photos I take now are on the go, and they look pretty good these days. I love my cameras, but having a reliable camera built into my phone means one less thing I have to carry in my purse.
