Mornings at Lifetime

April 17, 2007

This is the second week in a row I’ve been going to the gym in the morning. I have to say that I’m shocked at how different the women who work out in the morning are from the women who work out at night. Morning women are so rude!! They seemed so friendly at first. Everyone talking to each other, telling one another what they did the night before and how their children are, etc. But no. These women are inconsiderate and rude.

When I go at night the women are so polite. If you find yourself in close proximity to someones locker, they’ll close the door a bit so you can walk by and move their things out of the way. Even if their things aren’t in the way. Everyone seems really respectful of everyone elses personal space.

Not the ladies in the morning. Take this morning for instance. A pretty typical morning. I return to my locker after working out. There are two people in the same aisle as I am, and they are taking up the entire bench!! These aren’t small benches either. They’ve got their gym bag on the bench, their water bottles, shower items, stack of towels, clothes laid out, workout clothes pile, shoes… literally taking up the whole bench. Actually, I only counted two people, but there was another bag. So either someone has two bags or people leave their things all over when they take their showers. And the floor too!! They have a floor pile scattered four lockers wide. Do you think anyone acknowledges that their crap is all over? No. There’s no “excuse me” or “let me get that out of your way, I seem to be taking up half this aisle with my completely useless and unnecessary belongings.”

And that leads me to another thing. Some of these bags are obnoxiously gigantic. I understand most people are going straight to work from the gym, but come on. The suitcase I used when I went to Aruba for 10 days was smaller than some of these peoples gym bags. What could they possibly need to bring with them? I could take everything I used through the course of an entire day and it wouldn’t fill up some of these bags. I could put myself in a one of them.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t have enormous bags, I’m just saying that they shouldn’t take up so much space. Maybe put some of their things in the bag, or put their shoes under the bench, or try using the locker. If the bag is too big for the locker, leave it under the bench while working out. Or, if they’re going to take up so much damn space, maybe clear me a little spot so I can set my iPod down while trying to open my locker.

Aaaahhhh. I feel better.

Happy Anniversary to Us!!

April 15, 2007

Today is Nick and my first anniversary!! It’s hard to believe a year has gone by already. It makes me sad in away, because we’re not going on a honeymoon tomorrow :(

Last night we celebrated at Murray’s in Mpls with the Silver Butter Knife Steak for Two. Mmmm… best steak ever. Also the best chocolate cake ever. I’m not a big chocolate cake fan, but I could eat their cake all day, every day.

Tonight we’re going to eat a piece from the top of our wedding cake that my mom was so gracious as to freeze, wrap up and store for the past year. Thanks Mom!! Hopefully it’s edible. It’s thawing right now, but the frosting flowers are still pretty tasty.

Shooter

April 14, 2007

Shooter is an action packed movie about an ex-military sniper played by Mark Wahlberg (a.k.a. Jordon). Bob Lee Swagger (Wahlberg) is a retired marksman living alone with his dog in the mountains of some state with a lot of snow. He spends his days happily shooting away at cans of Dinty Moore soup in solitude when one day he is approached by a dude with Invisaligns (played by Danny Glover) who wants him to plan an assassination on the President. Not really. They believe there is a plot to kill the president, and they want Swagger to tell them how he would do it in hopes that it will help them find the killer before it’s too late.

Turns out it was all a big setup and now there’s a full out man hunt for Swagger. Through the course of the movie he ends up dodging multiple snipers and machine guns and almost single handedly takes down a bunch of fully armed men with a gun, some homemade bombs, and an FBI agent who really isn’t trained in anything at all.

I give this movie 4 out of 5 paloozas. Realistic? No. Entertaining? Yes. Good enough to see in a theater, especially with all the crap that’s out right now.

AAAA

AAAAA paloozas = See this movie in the theater for optimal viewing
AAAA paloozas = See this movie in the theater if you can
AAA paloozas = Pop some popcorn and rent this movie
AA paloozas = Watch this movie on TV … for free
A palooza = … I think you know where I’m going here…
No paloozas = Reserved for Eyes Wide Shut

What to do

April 13, 2007

It seems I have pondered most of my day away trying to decide what to do with jillapalooza. Nick notified me that there was a free website maker called WebSite X5 on giveawayoftheday.com. Apparently everyday the website gives away free software. He goes there everyday and declined to share this information with me until now. Maybe I wanted the Watermark Factory, or the Zoner Panorama Maker, or the Direct WAV MP3 Splitter. That would have been real cool. Oh well. Anyway, I digress.

So I was thinking about using WebSite X5 to make my website. Is has more of a page feel and it’s not so “blog” like, which I’ve never really liked the look of. I played around with it for a little bit. I never thought anything could be simple and cumbersome at the same time, but it really is. It’s straight forward page making, but there’s no code to customize or plugins to download. But the menu is a real pain to navigate through. And there’s no blog. I’m starting to like the blog feature of this. I can talk to myself, without actually talking, fooling people into thinking I don’t have a case of the crazies.

Anyway, I’ve decided to stick with WordPress. It’s more technical, and nothing says “you’re dumb” more than editing something while having no idea what you’re doing!!
