Karma thinks I’m stupid

March 5, 2007

Ok, so I’m not one to say whether or not Karma exists. But if it does, I think it’s out to get me. Let’s rewind a week:

Last Wednesday I was making pasta for some guys that were over. One of them was in the kitchen with me. For privacy’s sake let’s call him … Large 5+1. Now, let me begin by saying I have one of those large pasta pots with big metal handles and built in colander. I had just put the pot in the sink, pulled out the colander and was shaking the water out of the pasta when Large 5+1 entered the kitchen. I asked him if he’d dump the water out of the pot so I could the colander back in and return it to the stove to evaporate any excess water (Rachael Ray tip).

Alright, so Large 5+1 is a grown man. And as a grown man I would expect him to know that a pot that just came off the stove would probably be quite hot. And had I thought of it (a recurring issue of mine) I suppose I could have told him to grab a pot holder before he dumped out the water. But I didn’t think of it, and apparently neither did he. Mistakes were made that night.

Fast forward to tonight. I was making some tortellini for myself. I grabbed my little blue colander (brand new, looks awesome, first time using it) so I could gently drain my little tortellinis. The sauce pan was a little larger than the colander and I feared it would be difficult to pour the tortellini in without losing some to the battle. All of a sudden I had a brilliant idea!! If I held the colander up at an angle by the base while I dumped the tortellini in, perhaps it would make the feat a bit easier. Unfortunately I didn’t think (there’s that issue again) about the fact that colanders have holes. Mistakes were made tonight as I dumped boiling water all over my hand, losing half my tortellinis down the disposal.

What can I say? Sorry Large 5+1.

Mindhunters

March 4, 2007

OK, so I’ve put off watching this movie for 3 years because it got horrible reviews. And because Christian Slater is in it, I figured as long as I didn’t watch it I wouldn’t have to admit to myself how horrible it really was. All in all, it wasn’t that bad…

The basic plot is about a group of FBI agents who travel to a deserted military island for the weekend for a simulated lesson on profiling. However, as members of the group start dying, they realize there is a murderer among them. Now the profilers are being profiled. Can they profile the murderer before they all end up dead?

**Spoiler Alert** This may seem like an over simplification, but it’s really not. My original plan was to watch the movie until Christian Slater’s character died. That way I wouldn’t have to suffer through the entire movie. As it turned out, I found myself quite interested in how it all went down. My biggest pet peeve about this movie is that it “stars” Val Kilmer and Christian Slater. Now, Christian is the first to kick the bucket, which was quite the disappointment. Val Kilmer on the other hand is alive for the majority of the movie, but not present during the events on the island. He makes a brief appearance at the end as a dead human puppet, which I can only assume wasn’t really him. Fortunately, for the sake of visual interest, LL Cool J was alive and present through the whole movie.

Anyway, I stayed interested through the whole movie. The acting was good. The plot kept me on my toes and there were a few twists at the end that kept me guessing who the killer really was. I give this movie 3 out of 5 paloozas.

AAA

AAAAA paloozas = See this movie in the theater for optimal viewing

GW Update

March 2, 2007

I made a lot of changes to my girls’ weekend pages today. Boy was that a lot of work, although you probably can’t tell by looking at it. I’m just dreading the first time I decide to change my theme. Maybe the GW pages will be forever mortalized in Fruitlicious…

Anyway, if you’re lucky enough to know the password to the GW pages make sure your sound is on. You will find a pleasant surprise ;)
