Belize – Friday 12/7

December 7, 2012

This morning was sad, because we woke up to our last day of diving. I only intended on doing one dive, but Rudy talked me into two. During the surface interval I was starving. Kristen wanted to go to Latitudes Cafe and get smoothies, so I went with her. It turned out they served breakfast too. I ordered the Original Belizean wrap to tide me over, which consisted of eggs, ham, sweet peppers, cheese, and a secret sauce. Omg, best breakfast wrap ever. If Perkins served stuff like this all day, I would definitely indulge in breakfast more often.

Kristen decided she wanted to eat there for lunch, so after diving, we headed back down the beach. This time I had a roast beef and pepper wrap. I’m pretty sure it had the same sauce. Excellent.

After lunch I escaped to the pool for a little reading. For dinner we went to Hurricane’s Ceviche Bar and Grill. Apparently they have great ceviche. We wouldn’t know because we never received the ceviche we ordered. The service was slooooooowwwwww, but the food was good and there was a live musician to boot! I ordered the special, which was shrimp, cheese, and spinach stuffed grouper.

Belize – Thursday 12/6

December 6, 2012

Kristen and I skipped out on dive 2 in favor of the pool. We relaxed with cool drinks and ordered lunch from Red Ginger. I had snapper tacos. Kristen had wings. And I ate some. They were tasty.

For dinner we went to Blue Water Grill again. It was sushi night, so I ordered a California roll and a Dominical roll, which was crab, avocado, cucumber, and salmon. I think. Whatever, it was good. We stopped at DandE’s for frozen custard again. I had coconut. It was good, but not as good as the chocolate. No black guard kitty this time, but the nice lady owner gave Kristen and me pumice stones, which was perfect timing because we were just discussing skin issues earlier in the day and decided we could benefit from something like that.

Belize – Wednesday 12/5

December 5, 2012

I got up at 4:30AM on Wednesday. Someone had to make coffee.

Martin picked us up on the dock at 5:30 and brought us to the dive shop. Rudy had breakfast waiting. Shortly after we were on the big boat and on our way to Turneffe for a full day of diving.

There were the three of us, Rudy, Martin, Loidy, and 9 other divers. The way there was rainy, so that sucked as we all huddled in the front of the boat to stay mostly dry.

After the first two dives the weather cleared up. It turned out to be a beautiful day.

We did three dives, and our surface intervals were all spent on the boat. Rudy fed us snacks and lunch consisting of stewed chicken, rice and beans, and potato salad. After we completed our dives we got beer and rum punch! I forgot to try the lionfish ceviche Martin made fresh that day. Damn.

My camera battery was dying, but I was able to snap a couple photos of the rainbows, Nick’s shirt a day, and this one of the boys.

Before dinner I started fading fast. I took a quick nap. When I woke up I felt like a zombie. Also, because we were on a boat or in the water for almost 9 hours, I felt like I was still on one. The whole world was moving around me whenever I sat still, to the point where I got dizzy.

After wanting to eat at Wild Mango’s for forever, Kristen finally got her wish. I’m pretty sure this is the place Matt and Dan raved about on our Lamanai Jungle River Adventure back in 2007. It was pretty good. I had a shrimp pasta dish (spicy!), black bean soup, and a virgin banana daiquiri.

I felt pretty woozy by the time we got back. I was just going to lie down for a minute, just to see how the pillows felt, but I ended up passing out the minute I was horizontal.

Belize – Tuesday 12/4

December 4, 2012

The sound of Kristen tossing her cookies kept us up all night. Poor Kristen. In the morning Nick made a comment about how he felt bad for her. A few minutes later he made a comment about eating breakfast. I said, “Nick, Kristen is sick. There is no breakfast.”

“Damn it, Kristen!”

I managed to make coffee, but just barely.

Kristen bowed out of today’s dives, which was most unfortunate because we saw dolphins.

Nick, Curtis, and I moseyed to Caliente for lunch. I had a Caliente Splash and a Mega Chicken Burrito.

After lunch I wasted no time getting to the pool to catch some rays. I was able to find a good spot just before the sun dipped behind the building. Damn it. I stayed poolside anyway and caught up on some reading.

Kristen was up and about when I got back to the room. She was going to brave dinner with us, but by the time we were ready to eat, she was back in bed. Poor Kristen.

The three of us ate at Elvi’s Kitchen. I had a mojito, coconut curry shrimp, and coconut pie for dessert. It was delicious, as expected, because it’s Elvi’s. Hopefully Kristen will feel up to eating soon so we can go back.

Tomorrow we are diving Turneffe. Sounds like it’s going to be a long day. We’ve got to be on the dock at 5:30AM, and it’s a two hour boat ride one way. I’m both looking forward to it and exhausted just thinking about it. Unfortunately BRK is sitting the trip out. I hope she gets out of bed and cleans this dump. Or at least finishes her 30 Days of Thanks posts. (Kidding, Kristen.)

Belize – Monday 12/3

December 3, 2012

After skipping out on dive 2, Kristen and I returned to the condo for some sun and relaxation. We indulged in a couple of drinks and ceviche by the pool. The weather was perfect. Just enough clouds to keep the sweltering sun from relentlessly beating on us. When the boys returned from their second dive, cklahr went to lunch, while Nick and I ate leftover pizza.

I read while inside to escape the sun, then took an epic nap. BRK wasn’t feeling well, so she stayed in bed with a request for soup while the rest of us went to dinner. We ate at Caramba. They provided us with complimentary rum punch and conch ceviche. I ordered scallops in garlic butter with coconut rice and beans and a garden salad with ranch. Best. Ranch. Ever. No, for seriously this time. Unfortunately half of my rice became polluted with broken glass when the rum punch slipped from my grasp and shattered on my plate. The scallops were salvageable though. Sigh.

There was a Chinese restaurant next to Caramba, and soup was on their menu! However, when we got back to the condo, Kristen was tossing her cookies and didn’t want the soup. Oh well. At least it’ll reheat well when she’s ready to eat.
