Breaking Dawn, Part 2 (aka Twilight: The End)

March 6, 2013

epic_jumping_rob

It is with bittersweet sadness that I make my last Twilight post. This past weekend, Breaking Dawn Part 2 was released on DVD, officially marking the end of the Twilight era.

I watched BD2 in the theater four times on opening weekend. Each time it gave me chills, and only during my second viewing did I leak from my ocular cavities. It rightfully should have happened the first time, but I was too hopped up from the excitement of it all (and the twist) to be saddened by the fact that it was over.

Am I really sad, though? Nah. In 2008, when I read the books and the first Twilight movie was released, Breaking Dawn felt like forever away. And that was before adding an additional year for splitting the last book into two movies. I couldn’t wait to get to this point, so why should I be sad it’s over?

And my tears weren’t because the movie franchise came to an end. While reading the end of the book and watching the end of the movie, the same thought plagued my mind: Bella and Edward are going to live on with their perfect fairy tale love FOREVER while I’m going to grow OLD and DIE!!1!

But enough of the overly dramatic morbidity already.

30 Days of Thanks – Day #23

November 23, 2012

Today I’d like to express my thanks for one of the greatest inventions on the internet.

Animated gifs.

I want to find the people that make these and hug them.

Photobucket

You can find an animated gif for any emotion or situation. Words are no longer necessary. If there’s something you want to say, chances are there’s a gif for that.

Do you want to hit someone where it hurts?

Photobucket

Does someone need to stfu?

Photobucket

Did someone kiss you on the mouth?

I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE!

Photobucket

Gifs can also be used to relive your favorite moments over and over again.

Photobucket

And let’s not forget cats!

And Rob!

The lesson of this post? Animated gifs are pure win. Raise your hand if you like them too.

30 Days of Thanks – Day #17

November 17, 2012

I don’t think anything beats online shopping. Going to a store is too much of a hassle—parking and lines and people and waiting and people and being stuck outside in winter and crowds and people… I have better things to do with my time. I order everything online: groceries, clothes, shoes, cat food, makeup, etc. If there’s a store website, I’m on it. And if there’s not, there’s always Amazon.

The best part about online shopping is that you can find things you’d never see anywhere else. For instance, a week ago I had no idea this Edward mug existed, and now it’s mine!

30 Days of Thanks – Day #15

November 15, 2012

I know this may seem like an eye rolling thing to be thankful for, but I’m thankful for Twilight.

I don’t mean I’m thankful for sparkly, swoon-worthy vampires, epic love stories, Robert Pattinson (though I am, technically), or anything else like that. No, I’m thankful for Twilight because of the friendships I’ve formed over it.

Twilight was the ice-breaker that TwiSarah and I used to rekindle our friendship after 15 years. After having her back in my life, I can’t imagine not having her as a friend. She is my life now.

In December 2009, TwiSarah and I went to Vegas to be a part of a New Moon parody. That’s where we first met Mary, who is totally awesome. Mary came to visit us last December, and this past summer I met her in California, where we had a fun, Disney-filled weekend.

Sometime in 2010, Ashley started stalking me on the Internet. I’m pretty sure that’s how it began, anyway. Fast forward to two years later. I thought, what better way to stalk her back than inviting myself to her house for a weekend? In Kansas. When her hubs was away doing military things. I’m pretty people feared for my life. It turned out okay, though, because Ash and I had a super awesome weekend where we did nerdy things like watch the Breaking Dawn Part 1 RiffTrax.

There are many other people whom I consider good friends even though we’ve never met in person. I hope to meet them all someday. <333

Cosmopolis

April 19, 2012

After struggling through Cosmopolis: A Novel by Don DeLillo for over a year, I am very happy to report that I’ve finished reading it. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it. Okay, that’s a lie. I know exactly how I feel; I’m just too nice to say it.

Now, I admit that I only read this book because Robert Pattinson is in the movie version, which is coming out later this year. And I really don’t care that I thought it was kind of terrible, because as long as I have an excuse to sit in a theater for a couple hours and stare at him in a role other than a pasty vampire who does (or does not as the case may sometimes be) sparkle, my inner fangirl will be happy.

In all honestly, though, the upcoming movie is not the reason I finished the book. After all, I only got two chapters in to Bel Ami, another book-to-movie adaptation coming out this year that Pattinson stars in, before I called it quits. So then why did I keep reading? you ask. Well, because I was fairly positive at some point there would be an eye-opening “Oh, now I get it!” moment and the entire novel would become clear to me. Yeah, that didn’t really happen.

At all.

I scratched my head until the very end. And when it was over, I’m pretty sure I gasped out a “Huh?” as I was busting my ass on the stair machine. I just . . . I don’t know. I don’t even have words for this book. It made about as much sense as the dreams I have on any given night. How they made it into a movie, I can’t even imagine. Aside from not making sense, it’s all very stream of consciousness. There’s a lot of thinking (weird thinking), and the sparse dialog that exists read very choppy and unnatural to me. It was also a struggle to figure out who was talking at times. I want to believe it’s because I had a janky electronic copy and the paragraphs got messed up and dialog tags went missing, but something tells me that’s not the case.

There is, however, a positive side to having read the book: I won’t walk out of the theater thinking what the f*** just happened? Also, I’ll be prepared for the WTF scenes, like the rectal exam and the water bottle. And the ending. This is one of those rare cases where I don’t think the book will help the movie make sense, but at least I can go into it knowing that I’m not going to understand anything, and I can put more effort into ogling The Pretty.

Someone on Twitter said they saw the trailer and were left completely confused. I replied by saying I read the book and I’m just as confused. For your viewing pleasure, here is the Cosmopolis trailer:
